EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 10MiB, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

I am trying to restore a site and keep getting an error message.

There is no log file for this and there is no error showing in my cPanel for this.

This is a new one on me. I have used this product for years.

I have tried this to restore to the original site, and to a different site - both on the same server.

MESSAGE:

Could not open /home/kamcpanel/public_html/control/index.php for writing.

Show this error message to your host and ask them to ensure two things:

  • The web server runs under the same user and group as your hosting user account
  • public_html and all files and folders contained therein (no matter how deep) are owned by said user and group
  • All files under public_html have 0644 permissions
  • public_html and all subfolders contained therein (no matter how deep) have 0755 permissions

These are trivial for a host to fix. The first item is a simple configuration setting (creating a pool in PHP-FPM for your site). The other three points are a total of four commands on their root terminal. Shouldn't take them more than 5'.

First - love the product! I've been using Akeeba for about a decade now.

I will send the ticket to my techs, but this is a server I have used for years and used Akeeba Kickstart to reload or add new sites about a hundred times.

This is the first time this has happened. It happened when I tried to use the backend's Manage Backups and Restore, then did the same thing when testing it on a different site. I will let you know what they say.

Well, I thought I'd try again today - it worked without having to contact my techs.

Must have been a glitch yesterday.

Thanks again for your help and your product!
