Site Restoration

#37742 caused an "Attempt to assign property "params" on null " in my Joomla 4 installation. I want to revert to a backup filed last night at midnight. Can't get to restore backup capabilities on Joomla 4, but have the backup stored in a different file on CPan

In troubleshooting some functions on Joomla I caused the error reported..  I have Akeeba backups from last night stored on another file.  But I cant get to the Joomla functions, due to the error.

I have Cpanel working on my host with a separate backup.  Just need to know how to restore from Cpanel.

You do not need to use a cPanel feature. You just need to use Kickstart, see the video tutorial Restoring a Site on any Server.

Note: Delete your .htaccess file before restoring your site. You can do this from cPanel's File Manager. The .htaccess file is a hidden file, like all files whose name starts with a dot. Make sure to enabled the File Manager option to display hidden files. If you do not remove the .htaccess file it is possible that you will not be able to access Kickstart.

I attempted to recover my website this morning with kickstart and my akeeba backup.  Kickstart started fine but stalled after a while, 3 hrs. So that is not working.

I am attaching the error file that was produced by Akeeba Backup after the error.  Perhaps clearing that error will allow a backup to be made.  Thank you for you help in advance.

The error you are getting comes from an older version of Akeeba Engage. Delete the folder plugins/system/engage. Log into the backend. Install the new version of Engage.

I don't have a folder named plugins/system/engage.  I have plugins/system/engagecache  it has a couple of folders in it.  Should I delete it?

Sorry, the spellchecker really did eat my reply there. Yes, I am talking about the engagecache plugin.

If this does not work please also try removing the plugins/content/engage folder as well.

Yes, I mean the folders and all their contents. Installing the new version of Engage will reinstate them, populating them with the latest version of the code.

I was able to delete  and reload Engage.  But that did not clear the error.  My site is basically locked up. My backup did not work due to several problems.  I did not notice that the backup was split into 3 files, so I tried to restore on the .jpa only.  I had the Backup set to run automatically, but with only 6 archives stored.  After I was unable to recover after multiple tries, the auto back up had overwritten the good archives.

Is there a way to stop the Akeeba Backup from running automatically from Cpanel?  Without causing a further Joomla Error?  I still have access to Cpanel.

Do you have any other thoughts on how to remove the error?  I have asked the Joomla Forum for help, as I think I need to reset something in Joomla.

Thanks

I have made this ticket private so that only you and me can see the information posted here.

Please provide me with the following information:

  1. The URL to your site's administrator login page
  2. Super User username and password
  3. FTP connection information

Please allow up to one business day (GMT+2 timezone) for me to log in to your site and debug this issue. When I'm done I will post back. Once the issue is fixed, you can revoke my access e.g. by changing the Super Administrator and FTP passwords.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
In order for me to help you fast and accurately, please provide the information by copying the form below, paste it into your reply and fill in the information:

----- Access Information Form -- START -----
Super Administrator access

  • URL to site's administrator page (e.g. http://www.example.com/administrator?foobar):

Please make sure that you have tested the Super Administrator connection using a different browser or machine than the one you are using daily. Double check that logging in is possible and that the user has Super User privileges, i.e. it's not a regular Administrator. Make sure that your site does not block whole countries or IP ranges which would make it impossible for me to log in / connect by FTP. Finally, please do make sure that the FTP connection works and that logging in to it I have access to your site's files.

Kindly note that your site connection information and your site content is handled in strict confidence. Not only we are a reputable development company, we are also bound by law (EU GDPR) to do so. After you file your reply, the connection information to your site will be stored in an encrypted, hidden storage area on our site and will be automatically deleted when this ticket is closed.
