I test each new version of Akeeba Backup this way:

1. Install it on a test site (clone of live site at some  point)

2. Do a backup

3. Restore to test site after deleting the test site hierarchy

4. Install on live site

5. Do a backup

6. Restore to test site after deleting the test site hierarchy

Doing this with Backup 8.1.17, I ran into a problem. On step 3, Kickstart gave me an error database support= no, which I'd never seen before. I ignored it, and the restore worked fine.

So it's not a problem for me, but it'd odd, so I'm passing it on.

The version of ANGIE you are using does not take into account PDO MySQL in the main page's check for database support but does support PDO MySQL in the next step, Database Restoration. This is something I actually fixed four days ago, on June 16th at 14:55 EEST :) From the next version onwards this check and the checks in the Restore Database page will always be identical, using the same code, to avoid any discrepancies like what you experienced.

Of course four days ago was June 13th, not 16th. Gosh. That coffee is not caffeinated enough.
