Joomla version, no. It's irrelevant. Kickstart only extracts the backup archive, it does not perform the restoration. The restoration is performed by the restoration script which is part of the backup archive.
Akeeba Backup version, yes. Kickstart 5, 6 and 7 support JPA and ZIP backup archives created with Akeeba Backup 3.3 or later; and JPS archives created with Akeeba Backup 6 or later.
PHP version, yes. See https://www.akeeba.com/compatibility.html for the supported PHP versions.
It's important to note that web browsers do change over time. Kickstart 5 and 6 predate modern browsers with additional JavaScript restrictions. You need to use Kickstart 7. That was the problem that you had.
