I use kickstart to periodically clone the live site to a test site. I noticed that recently Cleanup does not remove the backup jpa file. I discovered this investigating large backup files after a clone.
Everybody will be able to see its contents. Do not include usernames, passwords or any other sensitive information.

Hello,
usually this happens when there is a permission conflict: files are uploaded using FTP, which has a different user than the one running the webserver. This means that Kickstart can read backup contents, but can't write (ie delete) them. Can you please double check if that's the case? Inside Filezilla you should see if your archives have a different user/group than php files

I deleted the backup file manually, so I can't be sure. I did not upload them with FTP, but rather copied them from the backup of another domain on the same site. The backup files there have the same user as the rest of the files in the restored site.
It may have to do with Site Ground conversion to Site Tools, which restructured everything, but I don't see any obvious differences.
I will do another restore and check this.
I have verified that the permissions including user/group are correct and the same as everything else. Cleanup deleted the other files (such as the start.php and start.ini files), but not the backup jpa.
Ok, I'll take a look into it. This week is a pretty busy one, since we're dealing with some update issues on specific server environments, but I'll open an issue on it.

Any update to this? It happens every time I do a restore to clone a test site.
Please use the latest version of Kickstart, we just fixed this bug.
