When restoring a Wordpress site if you include - within the prefix the site restores but wordpress dies with a cannot contain - and special characters within the prefix.

Our documentation already tells you that you should only use lowercase letters, numbers and underscores and keep it short.
Beyond that I don't think it makes sense for us to add restrictions. If WordPress switches to properly MySQL-escaping the table and field names the dash will be a valid character as will be most special characters. Joomla has been doing that since it was called Mambo back in 2001.
