Hi - I'm having trouble restoring a site locally using MAMP. I did try to send this ticket before but I think it failed. Apologies if you get this twice.

The restore is working fine for the front end, but when I try to log in to the admin page I get this error message: Not Found - The requested URL /localhost:8888/sib/administrator/index.php was not found on this server.

The admin folder is in place and it contains index.php.

Any idea where I'm going wrong? I've attached the log file.

Thanks

Ian

Hello,

does the folder sib/administrator exist on your file system?
Moreover, are you sure your webserver is listening on port 8888?

Hi Davide - many thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, the path exists - I've attached a screen shot showing the folders.

And them mamp web server is listening on 8888 - I know this because localhost:8888/sib loads the site fine.

Thanks again,

Ian

Can you please check if you have the file .htaccess and .htpasswd inside the administrator folder?
Please remember that those are "hidden" files, depending on your Mac configuration you'll have to take some extra steps.

Hi Davide - indeed both files were missing.

I copied .htaccess from the live site and added it to the local directory, but I still can't get to the admin area.

I get a different error message now :

-------------------
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
----------------

I couldn't see .htpasswords on the live site. I do have .htaccess.admintools on both.

I have another site locally and it is working fine, both front end and admin.

What do you think?

Thanks

Ian

In the previous reply there was a missing bit:

> Can you please check if you have the file .htaccess and .htpasswd inside the administrator folder?
If so, please delete them, since I suspect they are causing you issues.

Sorry for the trouble, I wrote the reply but then edited it and the "delete part" was missing.
Honestly I'm out of ideas. Your frontend works fine?

Hi Davide - no problem :-)

As it happens, I didn't read 'inside the admin folder' first time round - but neither file is in there.

And yes, the front end works fine.

I have tried with a couple of fresh restores for this site, and the result is always the same. When it gets to the end of the joomla install process there is no option to visit the site back end, only the front end...

I've not had this before :-(

Thanks

Ian

Hi Davide - I don't know how I did it, but I have now got into the admin page.

I think I may have dragged the index.php file onto one of my browsers - anyway, suddenly there it was.

I fixed some problems in ACL manager, and now it seems fine!

Many thanks for your help on this one.

best wishes

Ian
