I tried to restore a backup from the backend. The files were extracted and I clicked the button to continue. Now I get the message "The installer is locked" and the whole site is down. I have no idea what the password could be, I never use one for backups. This is an automatic backup done from Watchful.li

This site is (or was ...) live, I hope you can help soon. Thanks!

After extracting the backup archive with Kickstart and before you click on the "Run the Installer" button connect to your site with FTP or SFTP. Delete the file installation/password.php. Now the installer will be unlocked.

Why did that happen? Your browser's password auto-fill came back to bite you. The last time you edited the Configuration of Akeeba Backup your browser automatically filled in the ANGIE Password field without asking you. Please go back to that page, wait for 3 seconds and then clear that field. Click on Save & Close and you should be just fine for future backups.

Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for the quick reply. You mean I need to reupload the backup plus Kickstart and then run Kickstart? No way to get around it now?

If it is because of auto-fill, then this has been the same issue for years. You still have no idea for a fix? Like a security question "Are you really sure you want a password?" or similar? A checkbox?
My site has now been down for more than an hour, and it will still take some time and work to get it up again. Not the biggest of desasters, but very annoying nevertheless.

Thanks for your help, though.

Regards,
Ralf

Well, the result of the restoration attempt was a bit strange:
I uploaded backup plus kickstart, then started Kickstart, extracted the files. I never even saw a button "Run the installer". I immediately got to "Clean up", clicked that, and it's all fine. No password.

When you click Clean Up you are just deleting the backup archive and Kickstart. It sounds like you never ran the restoration?

Well, the site is definitely restored. And it went so quickly, I don't know what happened. Maybe it was already restored from the backend restoration that ended with the password issue. Kickstart magically resolved that. Anyway, it is good now. Next time I will hopefully know what to do, and if again something funny happens, I'll hopefully be able to report in more detail.
