After starting Kickstart I chose "Use FTP for all files" and clicked "Test FTP Connection". Since I hadn't filled anything in, I expected to get some message box telling me to do so. Instead, the top part of the screen was covered with a black box having the message below:

Invalid AJAX data received:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function json_decode() in /home/samraksh/test.samraksh.com/kickstart521.php on line 11589

I couldn't get out of the box so had to go back on the browser. The host is GoDaddy with a shared cPanel account. I've used Kickstart many times before so I'm fairly familiar with the drill.

Thanks, Bill

Bill,

Generally you don't need FTP in Kickstart, direct writes will do just fine. We use FTP on hosts where the FTP user and web user are different causing file ownership nightmares. That isn't nearly as much of a problem as it was years ago. Please try direct writes and see if that works for you.

Thanks. I actually did that first. I get the message below on the Extracting page. That's why I was trying FTP.

An error occured

Invalid AJAX data received:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function json_decode() in /home/samraksh/test.samraksh.com/kickstart521.php on line 11643

There are two javascript files inside the Kickstart archive. Did you copy them to the root of your site or just the kickstart.php file? Usually they are automatically downloaded if they are not present, but something strange is going on here. Please try copying those two files to the root of the site as well. All the other files are language files.

The only other thing I can think of is to upload kickstart.php again. Maybe it was garbled in transmission. There really isn't much that can go wrong with Kickstart, it is just that one file.
