My site appears to have grown suddenly.

On 4th March 2016 website size was 355MB
I had to take some time out
On 13th March 2016 without any noticeable additions website size was 1.69 GB

What should I be looking out for?
What would cause this?
Is it some type of an attack?
What should I be looking out for?

Hello,

most likely you are including other backups or large files in your current backup.
The fastest way to check it, is to run ALICE on your backup log. It will check and point out large files, so you can easily understand what happened.

Hi,

ALICE appears to be stalling.

Hi,

These appear in red in the log file

[160323 13:51:48] Couldn't write to the archive file; check the output directory permissions and make sure you have enough disk space available.[len=8589 / 10385]

[160323 13:51:48] Failed Smart algorithm on Akeeba\Engine\Core\Domain\Installer

I have the hosts looking into it.

Nev

Ok let me know if it fixed the issue. Usually that means that you are running out of space or the host is blocking you to create a file too large. In the latter case you can try to setup a smaller part size for the archive, for example 20Mb

Hi Davide,

I cleared all the extra download files and made lots of space in hosting again, but it is still producing a backup file of 1.23 G .
Before the leap it was a site of 355MB.
I'm not sure where to go from here.

Regards,
Nev
