Here is the issue:

1. My client's current site (joomla 2.5.x) was hacked. The last backup that they had was from June 2014, that I took using an old version of akeeba backup

2. I have taken that backup and Im attempting to restore that into another folder on their hosting site, once I have rebuilt the 2.5 site then I will work on building the joomla 3.48 website

3. When I run kickstart, the file extraction works fine

4. When I get to the akeeba backup installer I see 2 items in red:
MB language is default No
Register Globals Yes

So when I click 'next' it doesn't go any further with the installation.

I have read through your tickets, and I can't figure out what to do here, I'm stuck.

I also tried to manually extract the jpa on my local machine, then grab the installation folder again, but that didn't work either...

please help!

It doesn't look like an extraction problem. It is most likely an .htaccess problem. The MB language is the killer here. When Kickstart extracts the site, it renames the .htaccess file because it can interfere with the restore and installation. I think your MB language setting is set from the .htaccess file, so it went away with the rename.

You can try to rename the .htaccess.old (I think) file to .htaccess. If you can't start the /installation/index.php file, then that solution won't work. You will need to find the setting within .htaccess that changes MB language and make a temporary .htaccess containing just that setting.

That may also be set from php.ini or user.ini but those are not as common.

In my 'joomla25' folder, I only had, htaccess.txt, I tried to rename that to .htaccess, but it still didn't work.

Can you give me the exact code, so I can manually change this variable in .htaccess

I don't think I have access to php.ini or user.ini

I can't give you that, it varies by host. Your host can tell you how to do that.

I'm thinking it is .htaccess etc. because the old site works on the same host.
