You were correct about the permissions. I set the html folder and now Akeeba can write.
However, the extract process still does not complete.
It runs for a few percent of the process and hangs without any indication. I have posted the top portion of the debug.txt file below. (It continues with similar entries.)
This is a shared host. The site has about 450Mb free space. The server timeout is 90. I tested with Hybrid and FTP. Results are the same.
This is amazing. We have used Akeeba backup/restore regularly with no issues.
