Trying to restore a Jooma 3.2 site.
The Kickstart.php component is stuck on extract - and appears only to be 1%.
It wont do anything more - I have watched it for 10 min.

Ten minutes with no progress is a bad sign. Break the extraction job and try it again. The fact that you didn't get an error message may be good news. If it still won't extract, please try eXtract on a local computer to see if it will extract there. If it does, we know the archive file itself is good. You can download eXtract from our downloads page.

Hi, thanks.
It extracted without a problem.

What should I do now?

dlb
That is a good thing, we know the archive is good on the local computer.

Please upload the archive to your host again, via FTP, in binary mode. Binary mode is important, ASCII mode will corrupt the archive, auto mode makes your FTP client guess. Try kickstart again.

If it still won't extract and you are still not getting an error message then you have to decide how much you want to fight with it. At that point the easy way is just to FTP your extracted site from your local computer to your host. Then pick up the installation from there. But that doesn't solve the problem, it only works around it. And it can take a while to upload 5000+ files.

The other option is to check the host's error logs to try to find an error message there. We need some idea of what is going wrong before we can try to fix it.

Everything has been uploaded now. What's the next step?

user71360
Just tried continuing, now I have this issue:

Error displaying the error page: Application Instantiation Error

dlb
When you start your front page of the site, you should be redirected to the installer script. This is the same place we would be after kickstart finishes the extraction, it prompts you to run the installer.

You can also start the installer with: www.mysite.com/installation/index.php

I don't know where the Application Instantiation Error is coming from but hopefully that gets around it.

Hi there,
I attempted an entirely new restoration from scratch and attempted it again.
This time, everything worked like a charm - however all of the styling is missing.

I also noticed that all of the links are strange. It is assuming that the site root is:

From what we can tell the site thinks its structure is:
http://vanderburghhumidors.com/www.VanderburghHumidors.com/www.VanderburghHumidors.com/

It is placing my web structure three times before the link.
What is going on, and how can we fix this?

thanks

dlb
That sounds like a $live_site problem. You need to edit your configuration.php file via FTP or your host's file manager and enter the site's url in the $live_site variable. You need to include the http:// protocol but do not include a trailing slash (/).

Thank you. That has solved the problem, however all of my links now show up as 404 errors.
I know the pages are there.

What should I try now?

dlb
Turn off SEF in Global Configuration - that's a test, not a solution.

If you stop getting the 404 errors, we need to make sure that mod_rewrite is installed and enabled at the server level and enabled in .htaccess and/or make sure that the RewriteBase setting is correct in .htaccess.

OK So turning of sh404SEF allows everything to work fine. So your second points should solve the issue.

Can you kindly walk me through what to do next?
Eddie

dlb
Ah, sh404SEF! You need to rebuild its cache. It has been about 100 years since I used sh404SEF, so I don't remember it well. You need to clear the cache and rebuild it when you transfer from one server to another.
