There are two possibilities:

  1. Your upload of kickstart.php failed. Please delete it from your server and re-upload it. If the upload halts and your FTP programme asks, DO NOT chose "Resume"; chose "Overwrite" instead.
  2. Your server is set up to use PHP 5.0 or earlier (I believe PHP 4.4 is most likely) by default. In this case you have to ask your host to make PHP 5.3 the default PHP version on your site. If their solution is based on creating a .htaccess file or adding special lines to an existing .htaccess file it won't work! Kickstart renamed .htaccess to htaccess.bak during restoration in order to avoid conflicts with options commonly found in many sites' .htaccess files. Do note that your host can make PHP 5.3 the default PHP version by changing the vhost configuration of your server.

I hope that helps.
