Just a quick question, I had to do a live restore the other day and I was delighted as it worked like a dream. Should I take the site offline when I do this - or will the site still operate whilst the files are being overwritten? Many thanks.

When restoring a site, no matter if you take it off=line or not, you risk a user accidentally seeing the restoration page. For this reason, please use Kickstart's Stealth Mode as documented in Kickstart's user guide.

Hello Nicholas, yes that makes sense thanks. However, when I use the AKEEBA restore option from the AKEEBA component in the back-end of JOOMLA I am not presented with the kickstart start page which has this option, it jumps to the Server Setup Check.

If I restore by uploading .jpa's and kickstart, I DO see the option for stealth.

I would like to be able to restore form the back-end of the site in stealth mode - is this possible?

The answer is yes and no. No, it's now included in Akeeba Backup's integrated restoration but, yes, there is a workaround. Just install Admin Tools Core, the free version of our utilities & security component. There is an option there called "Emergency Off-Line Mode". This feature is exactly the same thing as Kickstart's Stealth Mode. Not similar; I mean exactly the same. All you have to do is:
- Go to Admin Tools, enable Emergency Off-Line
- Go to Akeeba Backup, restore your site
- Go to Admin Tools, disable Emergency Off-Line
and done!
