Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Partial
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Partial
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Partial
Joomla! version: 1.7.3
PHP version: 5.3.3
MySQL version: 5.5.14
Host: 1&1
Akeeba Backup version which took the backup: 3.3.11
Kickstart version used to extract the backup: Akeeba eXtract Wizzard 3.3

Description of my issue:
Dear Nicholas,
After moving and restoring the site I am not able to add any new users nor update to the latest version 3.3.13 (akkeba error, failed to move file). Would these issues be related to permission settings? My folder permissions for cache, logs, tmp and administrator/cache are currently set to 755. Under system information > directory permission I noticed that all files are unwritebale accept the configuration file. Upps.

The new users issue sounds completely unrelated to the permissions. This is most likely a Javascript error or something in the like.

Regarding the installation errors, please note that permissions alone say nothing. It's ownership and permissions that do the trick. Most likely you have to enable the FTP settings in your site's Global Configuration. Take a look at the installation troubleshooting page for more information.

H Nicholas,
I did enable FTP settings.
Also I installed AdminTools and changed permission settings from 755 to 777 for cache, temp and logs directory. The error above seems fixed. Now obviously, I have a vulnerability problem now.

Would you be so kind and tell me where I add a line in .htaccessMaker to protect those directories from attack. Henrik
