Hello,
Having trouble with the creation of categories in Akeeba Release System. The error message when I try to create a category is Invalid Field; directory.

Although the directory exists on my Apache server (local) the category I am trying to create can not be saved.

Hope you are able to provide an answer to solve this error.

Thanks.

First go to System, Maintenance, Database. If there is a problem with Akeeba Release System, check its row and click on Update Structure.

When creating or editing a category remember that the Files Directory field is a path relative to your site's root and must be under your site's root, without using any dot or double dot folder path component.

Valid path examples:

  • my_files
  • my_files/foo/bar/baz

Invalid path examples (DO NOT USE):

  • ../my_files (above site's root)
  • my_files/foo/../bar (double dot path component)
  • ./my_files (disallowed dot element in path)
  • /var/opt/my_files (absolute filesystem paths outside the site root are not allowed)
  • /home/my_user/public_html/my_files (absolute filesystem paths, even if they are under the site's root, are not allowed)

Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for your swift response.

I tried the valid syntax as proposed in your message for the directory, but unfortunately the invalid field-error still occurs.

Maybe it has to do with folder rights on my Windows 11 machine on which XAMPP 3.3.0 is running with an Apache server and PHP 8.1.2.

I tried to edit folder rights with FileZilla (component of XAMPP), but CHMOD is not supported on my system so I am not sure if 755 rights apply to the folder that I am trying to configure in Akeeba Release System Categories which to my opinion is required for proper running.

If you can share your thoughts on this (insufficient folder rights) would be great.

Have a nice day too.

First go to System, Maintenance, Database.

Does it report a problem with Akeeba Release System?

Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for your advice.

Checked the database and for the Akeebe Release System component the database table structures are up-to-date with no problems.

Hope that the root cause of this issue can be found. More tips are very welcome.

FYI: I am a happy user akeeba backup which is a great product that saved my website several times.

Can you please try something?

Uninstall ARS completely.

Make sure the System, Maintenance, Database page does not list Akeeba Release System.

Then install the latest dev release from https://www.akeeba.com/download/arsdev.html (latest dev release is at the top). This is the same version we're using on our site and, well, it works.

Uninstalled ARS completely and installed the latest dev release. Unfortunately the "Invalid field" message still appeared.

After reading the UserGuide I understood that I can use directories in completely different base folders on each release. If a directory doesn't

already exists it will not be created.  Will see an error message and a category won't be created.

I tried a different directory that is accessible for another module on my site and this solved the issue.
