I could not find the download for the Akeeba Release System. Is it not available anymore? If so how do I distribute my extension now? cheers

It's been moved to GitHub for over a year now. Here you are: https://github.com/akeeba/release-system/releases
Updates work just fine since we moved the update server to be server from GitHub as well.
If you need to receive an email about new releases as they happen you can now watch the repository on GitHub (from the top of the repo's page) and select "Releases only" on that drop-down. When a release happens you'll get an email. This happens 6 to 36 hours before Joomla! will see the new version and notify you about it in your site's backend.
Please note that Akeeba Release System is offered as a developers' product, without any support. If something breaks you are free to dive into the code and send us a PR with the fix :)
