 Hi,

Permanently blacklist IP after is set to 0 or a number. If we want ip's that try something to be banned immediatly should it be set to 0 or 1?

And is it possible to auto block for certain reasons? All MUA reasons et cetera would be a ban for me, even if you try it just once ;-)

Regards,
Marc

Hello Wim,

for performance reasons, autoblock rules are applied to all rules, you can't specify a different amount for each blocking rule.
Regarding the amount of exceptions before autoblock, we highly discourage setting it to 1. This means that you'll ban even users that are doing something wrong (in good faith). The default value (3 exceptions in 1 hour) is a good compromise.

And more to the point, an MUAShield exception may also come from a legitimate client infected with malware. If you immediately blacklist their IP forever you will lose future clients: the infected PC will eventually log off or its IP will be rotated and the blacklisted IP will be assigned to another xDSL client of the same ISP. This different person will be unable to access your site because of the IP blacklisting.

Never blacklist IPs permanently. Never block IPs temporarily with just one exception.
