I have a number of sites (10s) bothe J2.5 and J3. They all have backup pro and are set to install stable updates.
I am getting all my sites reporting that verion 4.1.0rc1 and rc2 area avaible for update.
One site accidently updated to rc1 above and doing a restore point kept failing.
I have restored back to 4.0.5 and all is ok.
Why I am getting updates for rc versions?

Because due to popular request we have been using Joomla!'s own extensions updater to provide updates to our software since Akeeba Backup 3.11.1. Unfortunately, among other problems, Joomla! does not understand the difference between a stable and a testing release. As a result it will suggest upgrading to the RC release. Since this problem comes from Joomla! itself we are unable to provide a solution.

Please note that before Akeeba Backup 3.11.1 we were using our own Akeeba Live Update which was much better and didn't have any of these problems. However, it would not allow our clients to update our software through Joomla!'s extensions manager or third party services (e.g. Watchful). This was a major problem with our clients managing more than a handful of sites, so we had to give in and switch to the badly written, misbehaving, completely brain-dead sorry excuse of an updater that is Joomla!'s extensions updater...

I understand your frustration. I have been very impressed with your software and use it on some 60-80 sites. The problem I have is that the web masters for each site tend to do updates themselves. I have therefore got to educate them all to make sure they only update to stable versions.
Perhaps the development RC versions should be distributed to the people who test them via a different system.

I saw your email earlier today. Sorry, I really cannot do anything. Please, please complain about it in the Joomla! forums. My other solution is to go back to Live Update which nobody wanted.
