Hi,

I classed this more as a pre-sales question than a techy one really. I've subscribed to a few different versions of Akeeba and Admin Tools and I've always been impressed with the service. I wondered whether the solo PHP version could be used to backup OpenCart?

Similary does the Solo version come with a kickstart program of sorts?

Thanks in advance,

nicholas

Hello Andre,

Kicsktart is only extracting the JPA, JPS or ZIP backup archive. It does not restore your site. The actual restoration script is called ANGIE and it is included in the backup archive at the time of the backup.

Akeeba Solo is able to backup and restore any script or application written in PHP and using a MySQL / MariaDB / Percona database. However, Akeeba Solo currently doesn't have an ANGIE installer specifically written for OpenCart. We have so far only written installers for Joomla!, WordPress, PrestaShop, phpBB3, Magento, Moodle and a generic installer for other applications. Since there is no installer specific for OpenCart you'll get to use the generic installer which simply restores the database content but performs no reconfiguration of the application. This allows you to restore your OpenCart site anywhere. If you are restoring on the same server and location no further action is required. However, if you are restoring to a new server or location you'll have to do any necessary application reconfiguration manually. I believe this only involves editing the config.php file of OpenCart, but I don't have any experience with it and am unable to give you accurate advice.

Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for the detailed response, I appreciate it a lot!

I doubt that I would need reconfiguration, it's more to make sure I can take regular backups of the files/database before updating the core system or installing add-ons and modifications. So then I can drop back if something goes wrong along the way. It would be restored to the same location / server / url each time.

I'll order the software later on when I'm back on the PC fully, thanks again :)

In this case you'd have no problem :) Akeeba Solo performs an exact clone of the files and database contents. I've not tried it with OpenCart yet, but I've already tried it with several scripts ranging from bespoke applications we have developed for in-house purposes to off-the-self applications such as YOURLS (a URL shortener, think of it as a self-hosted bit.ly).

Coincidentally I actually already use YOURLS so that's good to know as well. I'll let you know how I get on with OpenCart. Thanks again Nicholas :)
