Hi,
I have been trying to use the kickstart and it won't work so now I am going to plan B which would be the Akeeba eXtract Wizard. I downloaded Akeeba eXtract Wizard and then ran the wizard and it unzipped my files. Now I was planning on uploading the contents to my dedicated server from my webhosting company. My questions are:

1. Should I upload everything in binary mode?
2. Also, would just using the full site backup work, does it have the databases included in it? I know that I have to create new databases before I upload but I was wondering if the restore databases was included in the full site backup archive that I made with akeeba backup in joomla.
3. Once I get in there, do I point my browser to what exactly? Would it be http://mysite.com/installation or just http://mysite.com

Thanks for any help given.

Hi! Let's get directly to the good stuff:

1. Yes, it's best to upload everything in binary.
2. Yes, it's a full backup and the database is always included. FYI, the actual restoration script is included in the installation directory and your database dumps are inside it (in installation/sql, the files joomla.sql and joomla.s*). You can check it out if you want.
3. http://www.mysite.com/installation/index.php

I remember reading somewhere that if you use Akeeba Extract that you will need to change the htaccess and the config file. And for the life of me, I can't find where I read that at and what all I am suppose to change. Plus, I am reading that alot of people are having issues with moving their site to Godaddy and this is the webserver that my friend has chosen to use so we are moving an existing site to Godaddy.

Plus I have started uploading all contents that have been extracted by using Akeeba extract wizard and I didn't change any of those files. Can I do that after I upload everything?

Thanks for your time helping me.

Well, not really. It's not imperative that you do any manual changes. The recommended process is:
- extract the archive with eXtract Wizard
- upload all extracted files (but not .htaccess yet) to the live host
- run the restoration by pointing your browser to http://www.yoursite.com/installation/index.php
- once the restoration is over, remove the installation directory
- upload your .htaccess and wait about half an hour (that's how much GoDaddy takes to read the darn file)
- if errors happen, follow the troubleshooting instructions

That said, if you are using GoDaddy's free hosting plan (with the forced pop-up ads) it's unlikely that the restoration will succeed. This is because that plan forcefully injects GoDaddy's ads code on every server response, screwing up the AJAX calls. In that case, you have to do a manual site transfer.

Looks like it worked!
Question though, I am thinking that the phpbb3 forum is still pointing to the old site because I have not changed the dns over to this new server. Is there something I have to do to install the forum or should it had been taken care in the joomla backup installation? I had it included in the backup, plus I made a database on my new server for it, but something tells me that I need to do more. Like set it up seperately or something?

I am getting this when I go on the forum part:
General Error

Table 'getalife_forum.phpbb_config' doesn't exist [1146]

phpBB3 has its own configuration file where you give it the connection details to the database. Akeeba Backup can only deal with Joomla!'s configuration file (configuration.php in your site's root). For any other external script -like phpBB3- you have to manually reconfigure it after moving servers. It's been too long since I last used phpBB3 (about 3 years) so I can't really help with that :(
