The first possible problem is that your timeout value is set to ten seconds. That is pretty quick. We need to adjust some settings in the Akeeba Configuration screen:
If you get inexplicable AJAX errors, tell the users to set the min exec time to 1 second, max exec to 5 seconds and bias to 75%.
Then please retry your backup.

The other possibility is a host imposed file size limit. What is the size of the failed backup file? You can see this just after the backup fails by logging in with your ftp client and looking at the Output folder. Note that if you return to the Akeeba Control Panel screen, the file will be deleted.
