Firstly - THANK YOU for a fantastic product. I am reading and learning as fast as possible but am still very much a n00b when it comes to all things Joomla - but have found your product to be wonderful. Thank you to the team who created it - it is a fantastic time saver.

My local development PC setup: Vista 32-bit, WAMP Server 2.0, Akeeba Backup 3.0.a5, Akeeba Remote Control, Kickstart, Extract Wizard, SiteDiff.

I've successfully installed and configured Akeeba on my remote hosted site (I use JustHost - found them great) and successfully conducted a backup manually. I then installed and setup an automated weekly backup of the remote site using Remote Control (after eventually reading the manual and properly setting up the XML-RPC directory of course :/ ) with an FTP to my local machine. I used Extract Wizard to 'do its thing' and successfully restored the site to my local machine (after setting up a new blank MySQL database - kept the database name and credentials the same for ease of use). Probably took me about 45 minutes from reading about how Akeeba works to getting to this point - so well done on your efforts to make it easy for new folks like me to do this.

Lastly I wanted to set up an automated nightly backup of my localhost site to make sure I can go back to a version of the site I know works (especially given the number of changes I currently make as I learn and make mistakes). In Akeeba Remote Control when I try and add the (XML-RPC) address URL (which in my instance is http://localhost/sandpit) I get the following error message and can't proceed:

"Couldn't connect to the XML-RPC Server. Please check that the web services are turned on in your site's global configuration."

So I double-checked my local instance of Joomla and confirmed that web services are enabled, the Akeeba XML-RPC plugin is enabled and that the Akeeba configuration is all okay.

Am I missing something simple to enable this to work?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you are editing the site in Remote, the address should be "localhost/sandpit/xmlrpc/index.php". The address is different in the Wizard mode and edit mode. That's the only think I see that may be wrong.

I am trying to transfer my existing Joomla web site to new host 'JustHost' I have created teh backup file on my old site and have.

However when I run teh kickstart on the new site (Just Host) it wont accept my connection parameters. I know teh database and user name and password are correct - can anyone advise what Database server host name I should be using?

Thanks

This is information only your host can give you. At best, the only thing I can tell you is that you have to ask your host for the correct database host name, database name and database username :(
