I recently downloaded JoomlaPack Core version and was able to install it and do the backup.

Question: Can I be able to restore the backup to my local PC using the CORE version? Also, since I am new at both Joomla and JoomlaPack is there a tutorial out there specific to dretoring a backup to a local host.

Thanks

You don't need JoomlaPack to restore the backup. You don't even need Joomla!. Everything required is inside the backup file, that's the whole point of JoomlaPack.

After reading the overview of the backup / restoration procedure, you can browse through the specific restoration instructions in our documentation section. I think there are also a few user-submitted videos on using JoomlaPack to restore your site on YouTube.

Hi Nicolas,

Thank you for your immediate response. I do have some clarifications on the "overview of the backup restoration procedure as i try to restore my backup in my LOCAL PC.

1. In step 3, I created a file in my local disk C: where I put both the backup archive file and kickstart.php. (Is this instruction applicable even to a local PC and not to a server?)

2. I tried to use my browser and look for kickstart.php. typed in the browser http://localhost/joomlabackup/kickstart.php I got a HTTP 404 instead.

Clearly, I am very new to this but bear with me I intend to learn fast. I could not get kicksart to start up. How do I proceed?

You aren't very specific about where you put the backup archive and kickstart.php. Your local server has a document root specified in it's configuration files. This folder is usually htdocs or public_html, something like that. That is where your joomlabackup folder needs to go, with the archive and kickstart in it. I can't be very specific because the locations can change from one server to another and can also be changed in several of the configuration files.

Hi,

I installed XAMPP version 1.7.1. I got the archive and kickstart.php under the htdocs folder of XAMPP. I Had atough time in the DB restore section of JPI but eventually got it going. The site is now running in my PC.

If I may suggest that someone nake more video tutorials to augment those in YouTube. Big help.

Thanks

I'm a bit camera shy :) Joking aside, I find it extremely hard to perform a task and narrate in English, that's why there are not enough videos (actually, only one is produced by yours truly and deals with the overview of the JPI4 restoration script). You're right, we need more video tutorials. I'll try to work on that.

Hi Nicolas/Dib,

The testing and learning continues.

I want to go the next step beyond having restored a backup in my local PC. Is it possible to download from my server and restore in my PC MULTIPLE versions of the backup. Can you point me to tutorial link pls.

Tutorial? Why do you need one? The idea is simple: create multiple directories in your local server's root. Each one of them can be used to restore a different version of your site. Now, if you have created a directory named "foobar" in your server's root, you can access the site in there by pointing your browser to http://localhost/foobar
