Hi there.

I have JoomlaPack 2.3 stable running on an XAMMP envirmnemt on my PC, and in my newly installed Joomla 1.5 environment at my host.

What I've done is create a site locally, and now it's time to move it across the the host.

JoomlaPack is backing up successfully on both environments.

I'm using .jpa format for the backup, and have chosen a non-default directory to save the back up in.

I've used FTP to move the backup from my local backup dir to the host backup dir, and the file does not appear in the list of backups in the administer backup page.

Does anyone know what it is I may be doing wrong?

Cheers

You didn't do anything wrong, it just doesn't work that way. The backups listed in the Administer Backups screen are not based on the files physically in the Output folder, they are based on a database record created when the backup was done. So you can't restore a backup made on another installation of JoomlaPack through the Administer Backups screen.

You should upload your backup archive and kickstart.php (from our downloads page) to the root folder of your site. You may want to delete the Joomla! install that you currently have there. In theory, the files will all be overwritten when the backup is extracted, but sometimes we run into permissions problems where files can't be overwritten.

Normally you would have to manually create an empty database, but you already have that step done.

Next, point your browser to http://www.mysite.com/kickstart.php. Kickstart will extract your jpa archive and give you two links. The first link is to the installation script. It will prompt you for the new database connection information and restore your backup, etc. It will update configuration.php with the new data.

When the installer is complete, you will return to kickstart. The second link is a cleanup step that will delete the /installation folder, kickstart.php and the backup archive.

Fabulous! I'll give that a run. For whatever reason, I've completely missed the section on kickstart.

Thankyou...I'll post back with my results :)

Hello again.

For some reason I am getting an error when going through the first link you speak of.

"Could not connect to database. Please check your connection parameters".

Help?

user6707
Sorted the connection issue...

Now getting this one instead:

Raw Data:

Reading some of the answers already given on this error but it's not making sense to me. First time I've ever used this.

Thanks for all advice!

Cheers

That is the third one of these I've seen, time to refer it to Nicholas. :(

This appears to be an error in the JPI4 installer, you can select the JPI3 installer on the Advanced Pane of the JoomlaPack Configuration screen to avoid it. The alternate installers are only in the Plus version. If you currently have Core installed, just install Plus over your current installation.

Hey thanks Dale.

Yep...I have plus installed.

I blew away the db and directory and went for a completely fresh start.

Chose JPI3 and started with a completely new backup.

Created a new db with root as the user.

Screen grabs attached, but for some reason now I'm back to not being able to connect to the db :'(

Other screen images below in new posts of the JPI3 install and subsequent error.

The problem this time is your user name and database name. You need to include the prefix exactly as they are shown on the screen shot, sou49347_root and sou49347_soundsuccess. Your host is automatically prefixing the names with your host account name. You aren't the first to get tripped up on that. :D

Thanks Dale...nice to know I'm Robinson Crusoe on this one.

Well, we've progressed it seems and now I'm being told the user does not have rights to access the db.

grrrrrrr

Access denied for user
'sou49347_root'@'localhost' to database
'sou49347_soundsuccess' SQL=CREATE DATABASE
`sou49347_soundsuccess` CHARACTER SET `utf8`

I've looked around in the c-panel for where I set the user permissions without success.

You've been a tremendous help Dale. I really appreciate it.

user6707
HA!

Got it. Persistance paid off. Somehow figured out how to set the permission when adding users etc etc.

Thanks Dale. Glad this was sorted.

About the original JPI4-related error, I think that for some reason the installation/sql/databases.ini file was missing. Have you kept the original backup? Can you confirm this?

Hi Nicholas.

I've found the ini file in the directory you said it
would be.

The other thing I can think of is that it is being restored with wrong permissions, i.e. if you're using Kickstart's FTP mode and your FTP server creates files with strange permissions. I am pretty much lost if this still doesn't explain what happened.

Your lost???

Well, that's comforting to some degree... I feel a bit like Alice down the rabbit hole with the whole Joomla / JoomlaPack experience!!!

It's been a steep learning curve, but a good one.

Massive props to you guys for helping me out. Whilst it may have taken me a while to understand, JoomlaPack has certainly made moving the site across to the host a stack easier.

When I'm cashed up, I'll be sure to fling a donation your way.

Cheers :D

It is easier the second time around. You discover all the little "gotchas" on the first try, the second is smooth sailing. :D
