If I ned to do a manual install via FTP from a Mac running OSX, I need to extract the .jpa file first. According to userguide, I have to use the tool provided at [url:25aar8w2]http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jpack/frs/?action=FrsReleaseView&release_id=9295[/url]. However, these appear to all be Windows executables. Is there a utility you can recommend for extracting .jpa file on Mac OSX?

You are correct, the Native Tools set are Windows applications. They run well under Linux using Wine, but I'm not sure that will help you. You can also use the command line utility unjpa.php, available in our Utilities archive. That requires php and the php-cli module to be installed on the local computer. You could also use kickstart.php if you are running a MAMP server on the local machine.

I will ask Nicholas to comment on whether there is another way to do it.

I thought as much. I do have a windows box on site - I just didn't want to get up!

Actually the kickstart script worked fine with the .jpa so no need to extract locally and ftp.

That script is going to cut out same boring ftp'ing of fresh Joomla installs.

We're a little light in the Mac support area, Nicholas doesn't have one available to work with. Several of our JATS group (testing team) have Mac equipment, so we do have the opportunity to test on it.

Kickstart can also be used as a general purpose unziper for things like Joomla! patch files. As you said, saves a lot of ftping! :D
