I apologise for the long posting but feel more information is better than too little when it comes to describing a problem.

I’ve been using Joomla for the past month to re-vamp our organization’s rather extensive website . There have been a few glitches but I haven’t had any problems I couldn’t resolve myself until now. This morning, after editing a graphic in an article and saving it back to the database I got the following message which I assume means the database has become corrupted:

Warning: require_once(C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla\includes\defines.php) [function.require-once]:failed to open stream:No such file or directory in C;\xampp\htdocs\joomla15\index.php on line 21

Fatal error:require_once() [function-erquire]:Failed opening required ‘C:\ xampp\htdocs\joomla\includes\defines.php’ (include_path=’;C:\xampp\php\pear\’) in C:\ xampp\htdocs\joomla15\index.php on line 21

I’ve been conscientious about backing up and even did a test restore early on to make certain I knew what I was doing should the real need arise. Well, that time is here. After the above listed error message I've tried to restore a full backup I did this morning with no success.

I'm hoping someone can suggest a solution/workaround. I have an awful lot of time in this project and hate to think I’ll have to start again from scratch. So will my boss for that matter

Here are the particulars of my installation and other things that might be helpful:

Joomla 1.5.8/XAMPP 1.7.0 for Windows running on a local server
JA-Purity template
Firefox 3.0.6
Win Vista Home Premium

I can get into the Joomla administrative backend but can only see the first page of items in the article/section/category, etc. managers. I opened an article in article manager but was locked out when I tried to close it (and also can't log out.) If I log back in I can access the various managers but can't make any changes or add new items.

My backup files show on the "Administer Backup Files" page but clicking on any of the menu icons (restore/delete, etc.) does nothing.

JoomlaPack Configuration shows the backup file output directory is ...\components\com_joomlapck\backup but I don't see any .zip files there. Would they be somewhere else?

Any help in getting me back on track would be TREMENDOUSLY appreciated.

Dave

The com_joomlapack/backup folder is the default output location. You can change it, but since that is the restored data, that's what it was set for to begin with. Did you delete the site before you restored? Are you looking in backup via the Administer Backups screen or via ftp?

Normally for this type of error we look at $live_site, SEF, .htaccess, etc. But with a same server restore, none of that should be the problem. Reflag the whole site 755, make sure you do it recursively so all the subfolders and files are flagged too.

If that really is your only backup file then follow the standard procedure:
[ol]
[li]Make a copy of the backup[/li]
[li]Put the copy in a safe place[/li]
[li]Go to step #1[/li][/ol]

Thanks, Dale.

I'll change the permissions and see what happens. And, next time I'll make sure I do a complete backup of the site.
