hard to navigate without using hard backs.  theres no breadcrumbs displayed?

I honestly don't know what you're talking about. Akeeba Ticket System definitely supports Joomla's breadcrumbs. See our own site.

Have you published the breadcrumbs module for the Akeeba Ticket System menu items? This is the most obvious and easiest to miss mistake and I say that as someone who has done it on his own development site.
