 Hi Nick et Al,

Been a long time user of ATS and find it great for my needs but just come across an issue I really struggle to understand.

 

Raising a ticket from Android or/& PC not an issue- all works as I would expect it to.

However, when attempting to raise a ticket from an iPhone the message field will not allow text entry!? 

What am I missing?

( Tested with 3 different iPhone users)

I am an iPhone and iPad user myself and often reply to tickets from these devices. I cannot reproduce this issue when replying to an existing OR filing a new ticket.

Also note that the text entry field does not come from ATS. It's the HTML editor configured on your user account or, if none is configured there, the one selected in your site's Global Configuration.

My experience as an iPhone user is limited to two editors: Joomla's built-in TinyMCE and third party JCE. They both work great on iPhone / iPad and I just tested them right now. I use the former on an on-line test site, the latter on this site right here. I have separate, non-privileged accounts for testing i.e. I am testing as a simple Registered user, not as a Super User.

I'd recommend checking which HTML editor you are using, whether it supports mobile authoring and your configuration of the HTML editor. Also check whether the users complaining have perchance selected None as their preferred editor which would explain the problem.

As ever, Thank you for your response...  and indeed your usual clarity. I have not "twigged" that the editor in question was not part of ATS - that, of course, makes perfect sense now!  I tend to use JCE on all my sites and this one is no exception and, as you suspected, it was not set up correctly for mobile, registered user use.

I suspected it was a case of JCE being misconfigured (or an ambitious but not thorough enough configuration of TinyMCE). I had made several tests on my local dev sites this past Spring trying to see how badly I could break ATS by misconfiguring the editors. Your ticket rang a bell; it was something I had already seen with JCE and had reproduced to a certain extent with TinyMCE. That's why I steered the conversation that way. I'm glad my breaking Joomla under a controlled environment came in handy :D
