Solo is not meant to be used for what you tried to use it. It's not because we don't know how to do a backup of a site's files over SFTP. In fact, I had written the code, but I found SFTP to be excruciatingly slow for the purposes of backup. We are talking about several orders of magnitude slower. On a simple site that would back up in 10 seconds with Akeeba Backup, the backup over SFTP would take several minutes on a local network with under 1msec latency. A fairly big site over an Internet connection would take hours instead of minutes, weeks instead of hours and so on. That was far beyond I would call a practical solution. I could've told you if you asked me.
I issued a refund since it's quite obvious that you mistakenly purchased the wrong software – you already had an Akeeba Backup subscription after all.
Please note that refunds are processed by our reseller in batches. It typically takes 3-5 business days to see it in your account.
Also, yes, Panopticon is the right tool for the job! You install Akeeba Backup Professional on each site, then use Panopticon to control the backups from a central location. It also does site monitoring, update management, and so on.
