Hello,

How can i install Akeeba Solo on a domain.tld (NOT domain.tld/solo)

Best regards

That wouldn't work out very well. Solo starts with an index.php file and your site probably starts with a different index.php file. The two cannot coexist in the same folder. There may be overlaps in folder names as well. Things are much neater if you put it in a sub-folder.

Ok, i understand. The deal was to have a specific domain dedicated to managing backups on my server.

- Domain1.tld : website1 / database1
- Domain2.tld : website2 / database2
- Domain3.tld : website3 / database3
- Domain4.tld : website4 / database4
(...)

- (Sub.) Domain. tld: Solo Akeeba backup manager
-- Backup profil website1 / database1
-- Backup profil website2 / database2
-- Backup profil website3 / database3
-- Backup profil website4 / database4
(...)

Thank you for your reply

If you mean you want to back up all the sites into one backup, that is a bad idea. It is fairly easy to do the backup, but the restore is a nightmare. There is no (easy) way to restore just one site.

You can set each site up as a separate Profile within Solo. So each Profile backs up one of the sites. You only need one Solo installation, you can back up and restore each site separately. You can even automate the backups through a CRON job by using the profile= parameter.

I think I misspoke.

I want to use Akeeba Solo with its own separate area to save my differents websites on the same server.

Domain:
backup.domain.tld (install fail)
backup.domain.tld/solo (install works)
AkeebaSolo root www / backup.domain.tld
AkeebaSolo database on localhost database = akeebadatabase

Mywebsite 1: mywebsite1.tld
- Root www / mywebsite1 /
- Database on localhost database = mywebsite1

Mywebsite 2: mywebsite2.tld
- Root www / mywebsite2 /
- Database on localhost database = mywebsite2

Mywebsite 3: mywebsite3.tld
- Root www / mywebsite3 /
- Database on localhost database = mywebsite3

(...)

So on Akeeba Solo:
# Default Profile
AkeebaSolo root www / backup.domain.com /
AkeebaSolo database on localhost database = akeebadatabase

# Website1 Profile:
- Root www / mywebsite1 /
- Database on localhost database = mywebsite1

# WebSite2 Profile:
- Root www / mywebsite2 /
- Database on localhost database = mywebsite2

(...)

Now I understand. I can't tell you why Solo won't install into the root of the domain. It is a situation that has not come up so far. I will have to ask Nicholas about this, he is out of town until Tuesday.

I've installed Solo on the domain root on Apache, NginX and IIS servers on all of my dev machines, test and live servers (a total of ten installations). Half of these are vanilla server installations, using stock configuration options. I have only installed it on a subdomain on three test servers (one of Apache, NginX and IIS) and one live server (Apache) just to make sure that this installation mode is also possible.

The only requirement I can think of is that you perform the installation on the FINAL URL of Akeeba Solo since the absolute URL is stored in Solo's config.php file. If you installed on a subdirectory and then tried accessing it from a subdmain it won't work: the login form will redirect you to the original installation root URL. Does that help?
