Have you tried following the troubleshooting instructions for S3 issues? If so, which steps did you try?

bucknet name - all lowercase
ssl - not enabled
fireall - outbound allowed
- some files are getting uploaded to pretty confident none of the above options is the problem

5MB is the current setting for Part size
Disable multipart uploads - ticked
Process each part immediately option - not ticked

I'll give it a try with 2MB but that's getting pretty small for a >500MB website!

This means that the connection between your host and Amazon S3 is not very stable. With Rochen I only get this kind of issues once every 60-80 days. With another (local) provider I have these issues every second or third day. Yes, using the same bucket for both sites :) Unfortunately there is not much you can do about it. The part size won't make any difference. The problem is that the connection to S3 itself fails intermittently.

Dear Nicholas

Thanks - at least I know it's not just me!

I'll try setting it on cron during the night and it might be more reliable then.

I've seen that around 01:00-03:00 GMT it seems to be more stable. However this largely depends on the traffic pattern of the server (you have to find a low server usage window to run the backup)
