Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 1.5.15 Stable
PHP version: 5.2.9 (GigaPros)
MySQL version: 5.1.56-log (GigaPros)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you) GoDaddy Dedicated Virtual Server
Akeeba Backup version: 3.3.11

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
Hi! I'm using Akeeba Backup to transfer my Joomla site from GigaPros to GoDaddy. At GoDaddy I have a dedicated virtual server running CentOS with a Plesk Control Panel. I've created a webspace using Plesk and extracted the backup file using Kickstart. My problem is running the Akeeba Backup Installer.

Using the installer I get the error "Akeeba Backup Installer reports that the session write path and the installation directory is unreadable." Thankfully there are many posts related to this issue on this forum and I have tried to follow them with no success. When I press the next button I simply get the same screen over and over.

I've followed the instructions to try and get the host to make my PHP session save path writable, but even after days they are refusing to help me. I've even cut and paste the forum post describing what I need and why into the support ticket to no avail. There last response was:

"I understand your PHP script is returning a permissions error when you attempt to install it on your Virtual Dedicated Server.

I apologize for the previous confusion. I suggest reviewing your script to ascertain the directories that are needed. You can modify the permissions to these through FTP or SSH."

I'm hoping you can steer me on a path to move forward as I'm losing confidence GoDaddy will help me.

Thank you!

GoDaddy? Of all hosts, you chose GoDaddy?! Their lack of meaningful customer service, low quality of servers and monumental amount of problems with GoDaddy is nothing but proverbial. *sigh*

OK, here's a workaround for the issue you have: https://www.akeebabackup.com/troubleshooter/abiissues.html#abisession

If you get stuck somewhere, it's best to take a look here: https://www.akeebabackup.com/troubleshooter/abiissues.html

If it's still an option, I'd suggest cancelling your GoDaddy account and buy an account on a decent, performant host like CloudAccess.net, iRedHOST.com or Rochen.com. They are only slightly more expensive, but their service is incredibly better than GoDaddy's.

Thanks Nicholas!

I've already taken your device and purchased an account on CloudAccess.net. I've uploaded the kickstart.php file and am transferring up the .jpa file right now.

I'm anticipating the restore will go without a hitch! I'll definitely let you know.

Thanks again for the excellent guidance!

It will work without a hitch there. Moreover, if you get stuck during the restoration, you can actually ask them to help you. They use a modified version of Akeeba Backup's engine in the backup feature integrated to their Control Panel and they already know very well how to restore sites using Kickstart and Akeeba Backup Installer :)

Hi again Nicholas!

I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction. I purchased site hosting for one of my domains, uploaded my .jpa file, ran Kickstart.php, then the ABI, and my site is up and working beautifully! That's the good news...

Now for what I need help with. I added hosting for an additional domain. This domain they configured to use the same IP and be loaded in a directory structure underneath my first domain (common method for hosts I know). so the first site is located at /httpdocs and the second is located at /httpdocs/aibn.org/.

Although my primary site alpacasafieldonline.us loads peachy, the second site aibn.org brings me to the Joomla! "Welcome" front end. I've uploaded the aibn.org jpa file to the httpdocs/aibn.org/ directory along with the kickstart.php file, but when I try and browse to http://www.aibn.org/kickstart.php I get a 404 page not found error.

Can you give me any guidance on how to get the aibn.org backup restored?

I really do appreciate all the help you've offered me.

Thanks

The 404 error means that the requested file (kickstart.php) is not found at all on the server. This error message is thrown a very long time before any of my code has a chance to run. Most likely you have uploaded the files to the wrong directory. Please ask your host for support regarding 404 errors. I can not possibly know the server setup and various kinks of each and every hosting provider :(
