Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 1.6.3
PHP version: 5.2.17
MySQL version: 5.0.92
Host: uk2.net
Akeeba Backup version: 3.3.11

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it. (LOG FILE ATTACHED)

Description of my issue:
I prefer to keep on current versions of software where possible and upgraded from 3.3.10 to 3.3.11 this morning. Oh dear. The control panel will not load giving a JQuery and/or JQuery UI load error, stating a permissions conflict as the most likely cause and that Akeeba will most likely not work at all. However ...

1. The folder and file permissions are all as required (755 and 644).

2. media/com_akeeba contains the necessary directories and files as indicated in the troubleshooting guide.

2. I can still successfully run a backup from the Basic Operations menu that is provided below the (somewhat violently yellow/red) error message.

So I am operational but I don't like things that aren't working as they should - they have a habit of causing problems when least expected or wanted.

Note also that I have restored the backup locally using kickstart, recreated the issue, downgraded to 3.3.10 and the control panel works fine in the earlier release. This indicates that 3.3.11 is not working as it should, or at least in the same way as 3.3.10.

Help/advice would be appreciated.

The FTP access you gave me doesn't work. I can connect to the site but I can not edit any files.

I have tested connection with Filezilla using the credentials provided and it worked fine for creating directories, uploading/overwriting files etc. However, trying to use a Windows Explorer connection had permissions problems (no surprise there). Amending all the permissions on the site to 777 fixes the Windows issue so hopefully this will also help for you.

Have you managed to log in to the site and see the issue itself?

OK, I can see what is wrong. As mentioned in our release announcement (and all release announcements since August) Joomla! 1.6 is not supported. Your site is using Joomla! 1.6.3. The platform used in 1.6.3 is missing some database functions used by our software, causing a fatal error which causes a crash. Your problem is not that Javascript doesn't load, but that PHP crashes. You have to either roll back to an earlier version of Akeeba Backup (not recommended) or upgrade your site to Joomla! 1.7.3 or later.

IMPORTANT Joomla! 1.6 has a VERY SEVERE known security issue which will NOT be fixed because it's an end of life product. You MUST upgrade to 1.7.3 or later if you don't want your site to get hacked.

Thanks for update. Not sure why this would mean .10 worked OK but .11 failed but noted on support status of 1.6. I have successfully upgraded from 1.6.3 to 1.7.3 and the Akeeba Control Panel is indeed operational. It might be sensible to remove the 1.6 compatible icon from the Joomla Extensions Directory page.

Note: I found a way to avoid the issues that many others seem to have encountered upgrading older 1.6 sites with failed automatic updates and lack of manual upgrade packages to download. If others are interested on how it was done, I'd be happy to share.

Akeeba Backup 3.2.7 is still Joomla! 1.6 compatible, hence the non-removal of the icon. Plus, JED should actually remove that icon themselves since Joomla! 1.6 is end-of-life. The plan is to remove the icons for obsolete version of Joomla! after a month since them becoming end-of-life, which means they are four months overdue :)

FYI, the fixes I did to make the software Joomla! 2.5 compatible broke Joomla! 1.6 compatibility. Not that it really matters, as 1.6 is dead like a dodo.

Regarding the upgrade from 1.6 to 1.7, you can always use our free Admin Tools Core to do it ;) Admin Tools 2.1.6 and later should be up to the task without much fanfare. Well, at least it did work last time I checked, on a site I was working on two months ago.
