Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (backup/site transfer wizard section)? yes
Joomla! version: (1.5.25)
PHP version: (unknown)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (hostgator reseller)
Akeeba Backup version: (latest as of this post)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
I want to transfer the site before I change the DNS settings.
I have tried the IP address as the "host name" but that does not work.

Is it possible to use an IP? What is the syntax for the host name in the Site Transfer Wizard section?

Hi!

Normally, it shouldn't be just an IP address, but something like http://1.2.3.4/~username. If you don't have a ~username part in your URL (very, very rare), the syntax would be something like http://1.2.3.4 instead.

I just tried to put the following in host name: 50.116.122.123/~modellab

and

http://50.116.122.123/~modellab

Put both do not allow STW to continue. It states "Your FTP/FTPS/SFTP directory is not defined correctly. You will be redirected back to the previous page to correct it. If in doubt about what this means, please read our documentation."

It did put the akeeba_connection_test.png on the modellabs server.

With your ticket help I was successful using an unused domain name instead of the IP. Thanks nicholas. I wrote up the instruction on my new blog: http://www.modernmagic.com/blog/joomla-blog/akeeba-site-transfer-wizard-to-hostgator-reseller.html
