Description of my issue:

Hello

ISSUE:
Trying to reinstall my website with akeeba backup, i have the following error http://awesomescreenshot.com/089r2dp04
http://awesomescreenshot.com/0c4r2e858

HISTORIC
I gave recently access to my dev website backend for dev to work on my next website. I realized today that some components were added to this test website (like ose file manager).

I did not pay attention, because i thought dev were working on it. However from OSE file manager the access was to my whole ftp server when i just gave people access to the dev website folder.

ACTIONS
When i first saw the error i tried to reinstal another version. Afterwards i tried with even former versions and with more recently Kickstart versions.

IDEAS
I don't know what can be the reason, it looks like i canno't copy all info on my server now.

Hope you can help me :(

BACKUPS

I sent ftp access by mp

Regards

Virus?! Hack?! Good Lord, of course not! It's a textbook case of ownership and permissions issues, which is trivial to work around. All you have to do is to take a look in our troubleshooting guide for this kind of Kickstart issues or read the fine manual :) The solution is unnervingly simple: you will create a writable directory (kicktemp) and tell Kickstart to use FTP mode with this writable directory as its temporary directory. Just follow the instructions in the first link I gave you :)

Hello !

Tks for your reply ! However i'm wondering how can this message happen now. It's a bit weird isn't it ?

It could simply be that when you created the dev site afresh, the ownership or the permissions were such that would not allow the extraction of an archive by Kickstart.

There are two possibilities:

1. Permissions issues with existing files. I would suggest beginning by removing all files and directories from the dev site. Then upload only kickstart.php, its .ini translation files and the backup archive. Then follow my instructions again. This time it will work.

2. If the above does not work, you are most likely running out of disk space. Please note that in order to create the dev site you need to have free space which equals to the archive file itself PLUS the size of the extracted archives. If you do not have that much free space and can not buy/assign more space, there is still the semi-manual restoration workaround:
- Download the backup archive locally
- Remove it from the live server
- Extract the archive locally, using Akeeba eXtract Wizard (it's a free download from this site)
- Upload all extracted files to your dev site
- Access the restoration script directly, e.g. http://www.example.com/installation/index.php (that is, the URL to your dev site and append /installation/index.php to it).
- Follow all the usual restoration steps
- After the restoration is over, remove the installation directory before trying to access your site.
