Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: (1.5.25)
PHP version: (unknown)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: (3.3.10)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Files and Directories are not being excluded from the backup. This had always worked until approx 1 week ago. I have deselected and reselected but still no luck.

I am perfectly sure that this feature does work in 3.3.10, for I'm using it on all of my own sites and, believe me, I would have noticed (if this feature wouldn't work, the size of my backups would have quadrupled overnight). Moreover, it's not something which works one week and stops the next. What did you do before the exclusions stopped working? Did you upgrade Akeeba Backup? Did you install some other software? Moreover, I want you to go to Files and Directories Exclusion, click on the "Summary View", take a screenshot and post it here. I want to see what exclusions you have defined.

Hi,
Yes I upgraded to the latest version.

Please send me a Personal Message with the following information:
- URL to your site's administrator page
- Super Administrator username/password
- A link back to this thread so that I know why you're sending me the message

This will allow me to solve the issue directly on your server, as an attempt of debugging over the forum issues of this kind has proven to be rarely efficient :)

Thank you for your PM!

The problem was very easy to solve. There was a stuck file which didn't allow Akeeba Backup to load its configuration from the database. I installed the latest dev release (it's identical to 3.3.10, including a tiny modification, unrelated to your issue, to make it Joomla! 2.5 compatible), manually cleared the stuck memory files from the backup output directory and all is working perfectly now :)

Hi Nicholas,

I seem to be experiencing this same issue with a local Joomla 1.7.3 site. Is there any chance that you tell me how/where to find any stuck memory file that may prevent the configuration from loading?

I can push this site live if you need to take a look at it directly.

Thanks!

Best,

Matt

Hi Matt,

First I assume that you have updated to 3.3.11. If not, do it now.

Then, there are three things to try:
- Remove any akeeba.*.php files from your backup output directory. In fact, you can remove any files which are not backup archives.
- If this doesn't work, remove the contents of the jos_ak_storage table.
- If this still doesn't work, let's go for a hard reset. Remove the jos_ak_profiles table and re-install Akeeba Backup 3.3.11. This will remove all backup profiles, but not your backup records and files.

Hi Nicholas,

Thanks! I'm not sure which trick did it (or if it was a figment of my imagination), but it's working fine now.

I appreciate the quick response. Thanks!

Best,

Matt

Hi Matt,

I'm sure that there is a rational explanation, e.g. trying to access Akeeba Backup less than three minutes before the last backup had stuck and without trying to start a new backup. Or something else which I can't think of right now that does make sense. But since it works now... :)
