Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? all
Have I searched the forum before posting? yes, I found one entry on this subject, but I couldn't solve my problem from what was written there.
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? all
Joomla! version: 1.7
PHP version: 5.2.17
MySQL version: 5.1.56
Host: digitalartsclub.com
Akeeba Backup version: 3.3.10

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
When I click on kickstart.php in the remote server I get:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CLASS in /home/digit171/public_html/kickstart.php on line 975

I can find an akeeba, backend.log on my computer but .log is not one of the allowed attachments and I don't see any way on my computer to make it a zip file. And I don't even know if this is the Extremely Important file which you identify as Akeeba Backup log. Where would I find this file?

I have prepared a database on my remote server.

I am working on a Mac OS 10.6.8. The site works perfectly locally.

But now I am out of my depth. Please help.

There are two possibilities:
1. Your remote site is using PHP 4 by default. In this case please contact your host and ask them to enable PHP 5 by default on your hosting account.
2. You may have a corrupt upload of kickstart.php. Please verify the file size after uploading. It should be the same as the file you have locally. If the file size differs, you have to reupload kickstart.php.

I checked with the host, I have php5

I re downloaded kickstart, uploaded the kickstart.php afresh to the remote server using binary (raw data)format.

Kickstart.php on computer is 373kb. On the server it shows up as
362kb when I used Fetch. Using Dreamweaver, the result is the same.

Tried ftp of kickstart.php several more times. The closest I got was original file = 373kb, file freshly uploaded to server, binary format, = 370.4kb.

Still can't get past
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CLASS in /home/digit171/public_html/kickstart.php on line 975

If this is because of a corrupted kickstart.php file, what can I do to fix it?

it is possible that you have a broken package of Kickstart. Please try downloading a fresh ZIP package from https://www.akeebabackup.com/latest and use that instead.

problem solved. The host server updated my cPanel and renewed my php5

Now the site is up and running. thanks.

Awesome! It looks like your host had PHP 5.1 or 5.0, but not PHP 5.2.17 as advertised :)
