Hi Nocolas, how are you doing?

Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? yes
Joomla! version: 1.6.0
PHP version: 5.2.9
MySQL version: 5.0.92-community-log
Host: Siteground VPS
Akeeba Backup version: 3.3.6 & 3.3.5

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Description of my issue:

When I installed the latest version of Akeeba the Control Panel of Joomla is no longer available. Going to the Control Panel page show an empty window. This happened for both 3.3.5 as well as 3.3.6. The solution in both cases has been to restore the "restoration point that brings me back to 3.3.4 which works fine.

If you need access to the site, send me a note and I will give you full admin credentials.

Kind regards

Hi Andi,

A ha!! I will have to ask you to try a workaround. I am 99.9999999% certain that the problem you are experiencing is the infamous "Joomla! session storage too small" bug which affects all Joomla! versions from 1.6 Beta 1 (from 12 months before 1.6.0!) up to and including Joomla! 1.7.1. I reported it a couple of months ago and my fix was accepted in 1.7.2. Unfortunately, if you are running an older version of Joomla!, you are affected.

NOTE: You are running Joomla! 1.6.0 which –as we said in the release announcement of Akeeba Backup 3.3.6– is no longer supported. Anyway. The workaround for this issue is the same for all versions of Joomla! 1.6.0 through 1.7.1.

Hi Nicholas

Since the website is in pre production the better work around has been to upgrade to 1.7.2.

This works fine and somewhat confirms your ideas. I must say that the upgrade process from 1.6.0 to 1.7.2 was painless and easy. When I get time I will try your work around out.

Thanks

Andi

Hi Andi,

Yes, having 1.7.2 is DEFINITELY the best approach. It not only solves the problem you came here to solve, it also makes sure that you don't have any nasty surprises (hacks) due to known security vulnerabilities.

Hi Nic

I tried your fix and it does not work.

When I roll it back it is fine but I cannot see the control panel when I'm using 3.3.6 and Joomla 1.6.0.

Any ideas?

If you need admin access, let me know...

Hello Andi,

As noted in our release announcement, Joomla! 1.6.x is not supported since a few months ago. Please upgrade to Joomla! 1.7.x. I am perfectly aware of the compatibility issues with Akeeba Backup 3.3.5 or later and Joomla! 1.6.0 through 1.6.6, but Joomla! 1.6 is end-of-life and I do not intent to support my software running on an end-of-life platform.
