Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 1.5.24
PHP version: 5.2.6
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: Apache/2.2.9 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.9 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 PHP/5.2.6 mod_fastcgi/2.4.6
Akeeba Backup version: 3.3.a3

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Description of my issue:

This Joomla installation was set up as Fast CGI, but my programmer needed to change it to Apache for work on a module. After we finished the module, he changed it back to Fast CGI, but my Akeeba Backup has not worked properly since then.

When I try to make a back up, it says:

Couldn't write to the archive file; etc. (see screenshot)

I checked the permissions on the backup folder, but it's 777 (see screenshot).

I'm not quite sure what to do. When I try to change the backup and tmp folder location, it won't let me write to the folders.

Help!

First, please upgrade to the latest release, 3.3.6. You are already 9 versions behind :)

Then, the permissions have nothing to do with the problem you're experiencing. You're running out of free disk space on your account. Try deleting some of the older backup archives and/or the contents of the tmp and cache directories.

Hello,

Thank you. I upgraded to 3.3.6, which installed fine. But I ran into the same error, not enough disk space. I am having the host clear out the /tmp folder, so I will try again after that.

I noticed that auto updates are not a part of the component anymore, is that correct?

With 3.3.6 the automatic update notification emails have been removed from Akeeba Backup Core and now made available only to Akeeba Backup Professional. You wouldn't believe how many people would email me asking to be "removed from the mailing list", threatening me with absurd amounts of money because "I hacked their sites" and other stupid things like that. One of them was mighty funny! The guy had forwarded the email he received from his own email address and mail server to every spam blacklisting service he could find and also forwarded me a copy with a note in the lines of "ha ha, you bloody spammer, look at the email header you sent me, now you're blocked". I had to very politely tell him that he's being a complete douchebag because the email headers clearly showed that the email came from his own mail server, his own email address, from a plugin running on his site, one that he chose to enable. Anyway, I was receiving quite a few such emails every other day.

The thing is, most people are allergic to reading and thinking. I mean, yeah, if they bothered looking at the "From" field, it's their own email address. The documentation explains how this feature works. The email itself explains how this feature works. One of those guys forwarded me the email which told him what to do (disable the plugin) asking me to remove him from the mailing list! WTF?! And people are apparently oblivious to this wonderful novelty... Google search. So, I said "screw this" and removed this feature.

The same thing happened with System Restore Points. You can "thank" the very vocal minority of imbeciles who'd rather bitch than read (let alone paying for support) for the removal of those features.
