I've never seen that error before. It sounds as if something was broken with your Akeeba Backup installation, like some missing file or two...

I will reinstall I use Akeeba backup for a long time and never have that either,

I was thinking that the new server environment that I use for this site was the cause.

I come back to report...

Good day !

I am getting the exact same error message for one of my sites. I tried backing up the site, which worked just fine. Then, when I went to upgrade Akeeba to 3.3.6, I keep getting the 500 error.

I will try uninstalling Akeeba completely and reinstall.

Will update everyone when I find out what's happening.

Uninstall/reinstall of Akeeba finally worked! All upgrades finally got installed too. Whew!

Yeah, had to uninstall/reinstall Admin Tools too. Got stuck in a 500 Internal Server Error, but then noticed that the .HTACCESS file had been overwritten when I clicked on the Save HTACCESS from within Admin Tools. I had found a solution to a different error, thinking that would help, but it didn't.

Got stuck in an issue I've seen before with media/com_akeeba permissions off. Changed those, but still could not get the backup to work - 500 Internal Server Error.

When I noticed the HTACCESS had today's date/time stamp on it via FileZilla, then I knew that saving the file within Admin Tools caused the problem. Copied over the backup HTACCESS and now the site works just fine.

Weird though. I'm still not convinced the WordPress install, and moving Joomla to a sub-directory isn't causing problems, but that's just me. It's something I have no control over, so I have to deal with it as best as I can.

Hope all is well in your world Nicholas!
