Please try setting the minimum execution time to 0 and retry backing up. If it still fails, please attach your new log file here.

You are either running out of disk space or you have set up a CPU usage limit on your server. In the latter case, you should allow a bigger CPU usage for Akeeba Backup to successfully run. Normally, we can work around this issue by setting the minimum execution time, but your server seems to have a buggy implementation of PHP which crashes when using the usleep() function. If all else fails, you might want to recompile PHP on your server.

Nicolas... I'm hosting a dedicated VPS at VPS.net... After telling about my problem with Akabee, and your suggestion to recompile PHP, I got this response:

As I see PHP packages are installed via YUM :

[root@v1 ~]# rpm -qa|grep -i php
php-common-5.2.17-1.el5.art
php-5.2.17-1.el5.art
php-pdo-5.2.17-1.el5.art
php-mysql-5.2.17-1.el5.art
php-mcrypt-5.2.17-1.el5.art
php-cli-5.2.17-1.el5.art
php-gd-5.2.17-1.el5.art
[root@v1 ~]#

but not compiled and I do not see any problems with packages:

[root@v1 ~]# rpm -V `rpm -qa|grep -i php`
S.5....T c /etc/php.ini
[root@v1 ~]#

If you want you can remove those packages and compile PHP from sources, but that procedure is not easy and I guess, a lot of dependencies should be performed to perform such compilation.

Thank you.

OK. In this case, you can simply ask them to check why usleep() is causing the server to hang. You can also ask them if there are any CPU usage limits enforced and if so how you can relax or disable them.

I discovered a cron job that was monitoring Apache… the job was restarting Apache every 60 seconds because it thought Apache was not responding.

My apologies…

Ah, that explains it! Now, that kind of CRON job was something I had not run into before. One more thing to add to my "impossible-sounding-but-true things which can kill a backup" list ;)
