The problem you have is with Kickstart, not Akeeba Backup. Second, I think you ought to read and follow all of the instructions of the relevant troubleshooting page. Do note that this error, its conditions (which have to do with the permission settings of your web root directory and/or a misconfiguration in Kickstart's settings) and the solution are very well documented and I have nevertheless answered this question at least two hundred times over the last two years ;)

Hmm, OK. I searched but couldn't for my error, but couldn't find it.

I followed the exact instructions of using ftp instead, and get the error:
An error occured

Could not upload installation/README.html

Can you try extracting the archive locally with Akeeba eXtract Wizard 3.3? Does it extract properly? If it does, can you try extracting the archive on a local server using Kickstart 3.3.1?

Yes, it is extracting fine with kickstart on the local wamp server...

In this case, you may have one of those rare hosts which require less-than-optimal permissions (read 0775) to newly created directories to write files to. The workaround is rather simple, but a kludge nonetheless; extract the archive locally, upload all extracted files to your host by FTP, access the restoration script as http://www.yoursite.com/installation/index.php and continue the restoration. After you're done with the restoration remember to remove the installation directory and rename htaccess.bak (if such a file exists) to .htaccess before using your site.

Hey, sorry about the outburst in the beginning of this post, Nicholas. I was a bit agitated yesterday after a day of too many things not working...
I see that there are quite a few improvements in 3.3.3, so I better check out the documentation again.

I appreciate your work :-)

No problem! People come here when they're already under stress - it's a support forum, after all. I am used to people not quite being themselves when posting under stress. It's only human and, frankly, I do the same thing when I'm equally hard-pressed by a deadline which demands to finish something yesterday or, if possible, a day before yesterday. Thank you for your kind words! It really means a lot to me :)
