I have Taken a backup of my site but when I restored the site there is a problem.
The extraction process has not worked correctly.
See www.sunglassescenter.com

Nicholas, Or better still look at https://www.sunglassescenter.com

Very Odd

Earlier I restored a back taken from the NON Pro version of Akeeba. Would that have any affect?
Cheers,
Mike

Hello Mike,

Restoring from either Pro or Core is the same thing. A backup archive is a backup archive and can be restored even without Akeeba Backup installed.

Let's go on with debugging this issue. Trying to access the root of your site comes with a blank page, but trying to access an inner page, like https://www.sunglassescenter.com/maui-jim-sunglasses/maui-jim-sunglasses works just fine. So, I am pretty much convinced that the issue is caused by either the component used on the first page or one of the modules published there (but not in any other inner page). Can you please try disabling modules on your front page, one by one, and see if that makes any change? Most likely you'll find out which module is causing the failure by doing that.

If you can't get through with this, please tell me if the login you had given me three days ago is still valid so that I can take a look.

I made a Backup of our .co.uk site but used the restricted Profile joe_test for the backup. But a similar problem occurred

user19306
AS far as I am aware the same Modules exisit on both .co.uk and .com. and https://www,sunglassescenter.co.uk seems to work fine

user19306
sorry used a Comma. I meant https://www.sunglassescenter.co.uk

Works fine

Hello Mike,

The good news is that I know exactly what is going on, the bad news is that I can not fix it because I need FTP access to your site. But, I can tell you how to fix it yourself!

1. First, restore the site again so that a new configuration.php file is written
2. Log in to your back-end
3. Go to Extensions, Plugin Manager
4. Look for the plugin named XAJAX and unpublish it
I suspect that this should make the issue go away. If not, please let me know and I will get back to it tomorrow. It's 0:35 over here, so I'm well beyond off duty for today.

Nicholas, Did what you said but I don't think there has been a change.
I have left the Plugin disabled.
That Plugin is enabled on the .co.uk site which has the same login.

Instead of downloading a Backup to hard drive from one host the uploading to another host. Do you know if there is such a thing as an FTP facility where you can download direct from one host to another, without firs downloading to Hard disk. Uploading from Hard disk is very slow normally and can take Hours on some occasions.

Most FTP server software supports FXP but it is usually turned off due to security concerns. With Akeeba Backup Professional we have created the "Upload to Remote FTP" data processing engine to work around that limitation. Using that engine allows you to transfer the backup archive directly from the site you are backing up from to another site, using FTP. However, in order for this feature to work trouble-free it is advisable to also click the Configure button next to the Archiver Engine and set the Part Size for Split Archives to a value between 1Mb and 10Mb to avoid server timeouts.

BUT I tried to do a Default Backup after running the Configuration Wizard then setting the file type to Zip, and got another 500 error below.

Hello Mike,

Once again, you were running out of disk space. I found 2.4Gb of old backup archives inside the default backup output directory (administrator/component/com_akeeba/backup). I deleted them and tried to run a backup.

Oops! After restoring your backup, you reseted your settings, so the subdirectories containing the other sites were trying to be backed up. Back to Files and Directories Exclusion page, I removed those subdirectories from the backup and tried again. Success!

Now, you might wonder, if there were 2.4Gb of backup archives, why didn't they show up in the Administer Backup Files page? The thing is that this page doesn't list the files in your backup output directory, it lists the backup records inside the database. Whenever you restore a backup archive from the past, any later backups are "forgotten" by Akeeba Backup as their database records are overwritten during the restoration. You simply have to remember to take a peek inside administrator/component/com_akeeba/backup and remove old backup archives. That's all there is to it. Some necessary post-restoration housekeeping when things get tight disk space-wise :)

Nicholas,
Can you see why the Backups are about twice the size they should be?
I expect about 340 MB ? and am getting 649Mb?

Hi Mike,

There was a file named "Backups" in your site root with a file size of 304Mb. I think that accounts for all the size difference you observed. I excluded that from the backup set using Files and Directories Exclusion Filter and you can now take a backup. I think you'll find out that the new backup is well within the expected size :)

I wish I was Bright like you.

I just upgraded our .co.uk site to Akeeba Pro,ie the same as the .com site, but I notice that on the Akeeba Backend Home page that on the .com home page the are 5 item Option at the bottom in the "Exclude data from the backup" area, where as on the .co.uk site the are No Options? In fact the "Exclude data from the backup" is not present?
Is there a reason for this? It look like they are not the same version.

Mike

Hello Mike,

This is very strange, as the "Exclude from Backup" pane is included even in the free version of the component. My edcuated guess is that the installation experienced an error and some files are missing. Please try installing the component again, log back out of your site and log back in. If this doesn't help please let me know so that I can take a look myself.

Hello Mike,

There was an old backup (dated August 17th). I removed it for you. The backup now completes successfully.

Please note that the disk space is shared among all of your sites (e.g. the .com and .co.uk ones). As a result, extraneous backup archives on either site will cause the backup on all of your sites to fail. Please clear up old backup archives among all of your sites and, if you are still very tight on disk space, consider adding more disk space on your account (an extra 1-2Gb should do the trick).

I just checked my Disk space with my Host and their reply is below

Currently you are hosted on Basic Semi-Dedicated Hosting account and you have 20GB disk space.

Also I have checked your current usage and it is below 3GB:

Disk Space Usage
2720.81 MB

Hello Mike,

Considering that the recurring issue is disk space (we can replicate and solve it reliably - over 5 times during the last week - so there is no doubt about it) and your host's reply, I assume that the problem is account setup. Let me explain what I mean.

The type of semi-dedicated hosting account is what we generally call a "reseller account". The allocated disk space doesn't belong to a site account. You have to create site accounts (and each of those accounts may just as well host a dozen sites under it). The thing is, you have to allocate some disk space per each site account and the sum of all allocated disk space should not exceed what has been allocated for your reseller account.

Based on the information I have, it seems that you have allocated 3Gb (out of your 20Gb possible) to the site account which hosts all of your sites. You can simply up this allocation to 6 or 10Gb and you should have no problem storing a month's daily backups on each site. If you are not sure how to do that, ask your host's support for instructions. I know how this works if you're using cPanel / WHM, but I plea ignorance over the exact steps you need to carry out on hosts using some different management software.
