Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? `yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: (1.5.18)
PHP version: (5.2.9)
MySQL version: (5.0.92-community-log)
Host: (Siteground Elite VPS)
Akeeba Backup version: (3.3.a3)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Description of my issue:
When I backup my system and include a sub directory for a SugarCRM installation, the backup does not include all of the files and directories that are present in the chosen location.

The log file is 28MB so I have uploaded it to a public folder on my dropbox...

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2754816/Akeeba%20Backup%20Debug%20Log%282%29.txt

I get no warnings and the backup seems to be largely OK, just some files are missing...

The two screen captures show the difference between what should be there and what can be extracted from the archive.

Also can you tell me how I can "not" break up the sql files into pieces and make a single file?

Thanks for you continued support!

Please upgrade to Akeeba Backup 3.3.2 which was released yesterday and retry backing up. Your version (3.3.a3) is outdated and has known issues which were fixed in later releases.

Hi Nick

This is much worse. The extraction process completes too early and none of the external files are recovered...

It might therefore be an issue with the restoration program. I am running version 3.2 and the OS is Mac OS X Lion.

The dry run seems to function, but the real extraction terminates quite quickly.

Suggestions?

Hi!

First, please do upgrade to Akeeba Backup 3.3.2. As I stated earlier, Akeeba Backup 3.3.a3 had some bugs and I think that they might be affecting you. Then take a new backup.

Download the backup archive to your PC using FTP in Binary Transfer mode as illustrated in this video tutorial. Do NOT use the download links in the back-end of the component; some browser/server combinations tend to corrupt or truncate archives. Do note that you backup may consist of more than one parts. In this case, the filenames have all the same base name and the extensions will be .jpa, .j01, .j02 etc (if you're using the JPA format) or .zip, .z01, .z02 etc (if you're using the ZIP format). Make sure that you have downloaded all of those files and placed all of them in the same directory.

Try extracting the archive with Akeeba eXtract Wizard and see if there are any files missing. If files are missing, please also try setting up a local server (using XAMP, WAMPserver, Zend Server CE or something similar) and use Kickstart to extract the archive. No need to proceed with running the installer, just go through the file extraction process.

If that still fails, please ZIP your backup log file, upload it to your Dropbox and paste me a link here.

Thank you in advance!

The Akeeba configuration was backed up to 3.3.2 before I posted the latest reply...

The download process was already being conducted as a multiple part binary transfer via FTP. (Actually using the file manager in the cpanel suite with Siteground).

I have just extracted the system using kickstart on XAMPP...

THIS FUNCTIONED CORRECTLY

I guess that this means that extraction program is defective. As a footnote, I tried the windows version of the extraction program and got the same results that I did under Mac OS X.

Kind regards

(If you want to test anything, let me know..)

Yes, it seems that the eXtract Wizard is currently broken. I am trying to convince Mac OS X Lion to work with Lazarus so that I can fix it... so far without any luck :(

Hi Nick

Remember that I checked the extractor using Windows. I did run it under VMWare, but it seems that all versions are broken.

If you want me to test it ona Lion system, let me know...

My primary machine is a MacBook Pro running on Lion and I can confirm the issue. The funny thing is that I tested the same archive on Windows 7 and Akeeba eXtract Wizard was able to extract it. And it is exactly the same codebase. Go figure...

On the practical side of things, I am unable to install the Lazarus development environment on Lion, so I can't debug it. Trying to debug the app on Windows makes it crash to flames, with a stupid error message that doesn't help me understand what the heck is wrong. This pretty much makes maintaining eXtract Wizard an impossible feat.

I am now thinking of discontinuing eXtract Wizard. Kickstart works wonders even on a local server. In fact, it works much better on a local server than eXtract Wizard will ever be. I begin to see no reason maintaining yet another piece of software whose functionality already exists in the versatile Kickstart tool. So, this may well be eXtract Wizard's tombstone.

Hi Nick

You might think about putting some switches into the Backup program that allows you to only backup external websites, effectively creating a backup system for other installed software. The next step would be the selective restore of the packages so that you could restore only one of the systems that has been backed up - Call it SQL Backup Dashboard or something...

Thanks for you help on this, I guess you'll let me know if you do fix it?

It's on the to-do list for Akeeba Backup 3.4 :)
