Description of my issue:

In the control panel i have a "Live Update is not supported" alert.

I have several other sites on the same server & none of them have the error.
Also for the site with the error I'm receiving emails saying a new version of the software is available.
Clicking on the update link in that email gives this error:-

Downloading the update package failed. Make sure that your temp-directory is writable or that you have enabled Joomla!'s FTP options in your site's Global Configuration.

The temp directory is writable.

Hello Mark,

Sometimes Live Update may get stuck after an update. In order to work around this, you have to go through editing the database. Using phpMyAdmin -or an equivalent tool- edit your jos_components table. Find the row whose "name" column contains the "COM_AKEEBA" value and edit it. In the "params" column you will see several lines in the form key=value. The lasst two lines should have a key name of lastversion and liveupdate. Delete these two lines and save the record. Now you can go back to your site and Live Update should work.

Also note that you need to make sure that you have entered a valid Download ID in the Component Parameters for Live Update to be able to download and update the component.

Awesome! I am now going to include a small modification to Live Update (in Akeeba Backup 3.3.2) to allow it to get unstuck when you click on "Refresh update information from server" :)
