Akeeba Backup version: (unknown)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Description of my issue:
Hi Nicolas,

Till tonight my Abeeba Backup Core always works perfect. I just upgraded from 3.3.b1 to 3.3.0-core and first started the Installation Wizard before my first testbackup.
After the backup I got this error:

Backup fails

The implementation of the backup is stopped because an error has occurred.

The last error was:

AJAX Loading Error

HTTP Status: 500 (Internal Server Error)

Internal status: error

XHR ReadyState: 4

Raw server response:

But the strange thing is that I can't find any error in my log and I have a complete jpa.file in my list which is marked as OK.
I've tried it several times and still got the error message.

Then I downgraded to 3.3.b1 and everything works fine again with a succesfull backup.

I read the manual but I'm not shure what setting I have to change. Can you help me with this?

Greetings, Paul

The backup is complete, but the process is not over. However, as I noted, you are using an unsupported version of PHP (5.2.4). When I mention in the requirements page that Akeeba Backup required PHP 5.2.6+ I really mean it. PHP 5.2.4 and 5.2.5 were extremely buggy and don't work properly. Moreover, the latest PHP 5.2 version is 5.2.17, released two months ago. Your release is ancient, contains a ton of vulnerabilities and should not be used on a live site. Not to mention that PHP 5.2 reached end of life two months ago. Maybe you should seriously consider a PHP upgrade on your server? ;)

Hi Nicolas,

I have no influence on the PHP version because the server is provided by a webhoster and is upgraded I few motnhs ago so I assumed to be up to date. Maybe I can asked them for a upgrade and hope for a positive answer.
What's you're advice for this moment; downgrade to the previous version which works fine?
By the way, can you remove my logfile, just in case ....

Greetings Paul

I too received the same error message after I installed the latest Akeeba Backup 3.3.0. My server has 5.2.17 PHP installed. I've attached the error log for your review.

As well, I am receiving the same error and cannot resolve it.

I have been using the BackUp service for many months now with now problems, but this new upgrade is not working with my site.

My host also determines the .php and I am at the highest level they will allow, which is 5.2.12

Here is the error message and a couple of steps I tried:

Backup Failed

The backup operation has been halted because an error was detected.

The last error message was:

AJAX Loading Error

HTTP Status: 500 (Internal Server Error)

Internal status: error

XHR ReadyState: 4

Raw server response:

* Run Configuration Wizard successfully. Performed BackUp | Failed with same error message.

* Changed configuration setting to use iframe instead of ajax | Failed - different error message:

The backup operation has been halted because an error was detected.

The last error message was: Invalid AJAX data:

I am also getting the same error message under the same conditions - upgrading from 3.3b1 Pro to 3.30 Pro - except with PHP Version 5.2.9. The error log is attached.

Thanks,

Hi Nicholas,

After reinstalling 3.3.0. Core last night I tried exactly the same things Randy also tried in his post and had exctly the same result. At that point I decided to downgrade again to 3.3.b1 which works perfect.
I've no experience with PHP-version etc. but because of your advice I'll certainly will contact my webhoster today.
First I've an additional question; when I checked out the PHP-version in the Joomla backend console I discovered this version: 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.17 with the releasedate of may 4 2011. (I checked it also on the Ubuntu website)
So it's updated only 2 months ago in the same periode when PHP 5.2.17 was released. Maybe I'm interpreting the information wrong or I'm looking at the wrong place.
Do you have an explanation for the versions?

Kind regards,

Paul

Hi Nicolas,

And here the result from the Netherlands .. -;)

(in Dutch):

"Back-up is succesvol afgerond

Gefeliciteerd! Het back-upproces is succesvol afgerond.

U kunt nu naar een andere pagina navigeren."

Thanks, I'm definitely your biggest fan in The Netherlands!

Can you please give your opinion about my last post concerning the PHP-version? After your response I'll contact my webshoster for a possible PHP-upgrade.

Paul

Great! Thank you for your feedback :)

Regarding the PHP version, it is suggested that you use either PHP 5.2.17 or -better- PHP 5.3.6. Do note that some older, unmaintained extensions won't work properly with PHP 5.3.x, but PHP 5.2 is already end-of-life and it will soon become the source of security woes. The world has to move forward I guess :)
