I have Akeeba Backup Pro but the live update fails every time. My host is using cURL in an attempt to update. I added some code in to see what is going on and cURL is returning with error:

The requested URL returned error: 403

The URL that is being used by cURL is

http://www.akeebabackup.com//download/akeeba-backup/akeeba-backup-3-2-4/com_akeeba-3.2.4-pro.zip.html?downloadid={my download id}downloadid={my download id}

Notice that donwloadid is getting added twice to the URL although that doesn't seem to be the problem as when I manually force the URL to only have one downloadid variable, I still get the 403 error.

I enabled allow_url_fopen but it returns an error as well.

I've verified that my download ID is correct but am still given the 403 errors. If I login to the site via the browser, I can download the file directly but that kind of defeats the purpose of live update.

Any ideas? Am I missing something?

Thanks!
Alan

That's a bug in the Live Update system. You will have to upgrade your copy of Akeeba Backup manually, by simply installing the new version on top of the old one without uninstalling the old version.

Thanks Nicholas. Is that bug fixed in the latest release?

It's supposed to be fixed, yes. The bad thing with this kind of bugs is that I can't fully test them unless a publish a new release, which is one release too late. It's like the chicken and egg problem :(

I too have had problems with this on all past versions I have tried.

If this helps I notice that the file is created for me in the /tmp folder but it is always 0 size.

I hope this is fixed in the latest version as it will save a bit of wasted time updating.

As an alternative, what about offering a reinstall feature on this update page as a suggestion (much like admin tools has) if this update feature can not be fixed due to the checken and egg problem.

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,

did this happen upgrading 3.2.5 to 3.2.6, or was it with 3.2.4? This problem was due to several bugs in the download code and the way the download URL was being handled in versions 3.2 through 3.2.4, but was fixed in 3.2.5 (or -at least- I couldn't replicate the problem any more on any of my sites).

I've had this issue again in the 3.2.6 to 3.2.7 upgrade - had it on ones further back as well - sorry.

(PS - it's on this and ATPRO too)
