I have Akeeba Backup/Admin Tools Pro.
I am currently having huge problems with my host (Native Space) and my site is down far too frequently and so have decided to move hosts. I backed up my site using Akeeba but then had problems downloading that file. It eventually downloaded but not sure if it was corrupted and have had some problems restoring my site on the new host, and it would seem that I would have to reinstall all the individual components.
Bearing in mind that my current host seems to have some sort of limitation on downloading any files either by ftp or from the joomla back end; what would be the easiest way of going about moving my site?

Most likely you can make do with smaller files. In this case, go to Akeeba Backup's Configuration page and click on the "Configure..." button next to the "Archiver Engine". Set the "Part size for split archives" to a low value, e.g. 2Mb (tip: use the arrow keys to fine tune the value). Then take a new backup. Your new backup now consists of several files (.jpa, .j01, .j02, etc). Download all of them and upload all of the to the new site. Running Kickstart will transparently extract ALL of those files if you choose the .jpa file.
